North Ayrshire's lockdown restrictions will remain at Level 3.

The First Minister updated the Scottish Parliament today and confirmed that there will be no change.

However, South and East Ayrshire will move from Level 4, the highest tier, to Level 3 from Friday, December 11, at 6pm.

Last month, as South and East Ayrshire were placed into total lockdown, North Ayrshire escaped with a lower prevalence of the virus.

Non-essential shops can remain open as can hospitality, but with restrictions in place including a ban on alcoholic drinks and the 6pm curfew.

North Ayrshire entered Level 3 of coronavirus restrictions on Monday, November 2, after the Scottish Government introduced the five-tier system to deal with rising cases across the country.

In the seven days to December 4, there were 451 positive cases of coronavirus in Ayrshire, with 192 of them in North Ayrshire.

Two people have died from the virus this month already, with a total of 40 people dying having tested positive for the virus in November in North Ayrshire.
