IBROX legend Ally McCoist says that he doesn't understand why Nicola Sturgeon mentioned the likes of Rangers and Ayr United fans when condeming the Celtic supporters that descended on Parkhead in the aftermath of the club's 2-0 defeat at home to Ross County on Sunday.

Neil Lennon's side were eliminated from the Betfred Cup, stretching a poor run of form that has seen them win just two of their last ten games, leading to an angry reaction from fans as a crowd formed outside the gorund calling for the Celtic boss to be sacked.

Journalists and players were escorted from the stadium amid tense and ugly scenes, with two police officers injured during the unrest - prompting the First Minister to warn supporters: "I don't care if you're a Celtic fan, a Rangers fan, an Ayr United fan or no fan of football at all.

"Anybody who attacks police officers is doing wrong and that is pretty despicable.

"I would say that across the board regardless of football or any other sporting affiliation."

Appearing on talkSPORT, McCoist resonded to Sturgeon's comments by asking why Ayr United and Rangers had been brought into the discussion even though neither set of fans had anything to do with Sunday's disturbance.

He said: "Getting back to Nicola, I don't know what she was doing bringing Rangers and poor Ayr United into it, but that's probably a topic for another discussion."
