Students at Castlepark Primary School in Irvine are being told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Protect team after coming into contact with somebody who tested positive for coronavirus.

Lynne McNiven, joint director of public health with NHS Ayrshire Arran confirmed the news earlier on today (Monday, November 30).

She said that "a small number of individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately.

"Everyone in Ayrshire and Arran is reminded to remember the FACTS guidance:

A – Avoid crowded places.

C – Clean your hands frequently, using water & soap whenever possible.

T – Two metres – observe physical distancing.
