A section of the M8 will remain closed this morning during rush hour after a "serious" road crash last night.

An emergency response was called to junction J7A Westbound yesterday evening shortly after 9pm after receiving reports of the collision.

The road has since been closed off as police divert oncoming traffic.

Drivers are being warned to avoid the area and allow extra time for journeys.

A Tweet from Greater Glasgow Police reads: "The #M8 westbound, between J7A and J8, Baillieston, is closed following a serious crash last night around 8.45 pm.

"Closure is expected to last through morning rush hour.

"Please avoid the area, allow extra time for your journey and follow the diversions."
