FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon is set to announce which Covid restriction levels each local authority area will soon be under today as part of the Scottish Government’s weekly review.
It is thought that parts of western Scotland are likely to face the toughest restrictions with a move into level 4 after the First Minister warned infection rates in some areas remain “stubbornly high”.
Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Lanarkshire appear to be causing the Scottish Government the most concern.
Speaking at the coronavirus briefing yesterday, Sturgeon told Scots that a “limited period” of tight measures could mean restrictions are eased around Christmas time.

The First Minister explained: “Moving to level 4 restrictions for a limited period in some areas, while not a decision we would ever take lightly because of the wider economic and social impact, would help us to address both of these concerns.”
Under level 4 restrictions all restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars must close, although takeaways can operate as normal.
“Close contact services” like hairdressers, barbers and beauticians can not operate, while public sector buildings like libraries an community centres must also shut.
People would be advised not to travel into or out of level 4 areas while visitor attractions would be closed.
Schools will remain open, however, and people are permitted to meet others outdoors in a private garden or public place like a park. The maximum number of people who can meet would be six from two households.
The First Minister is expected to make a statement on the new measures to the Scottish Parliament at 2.20pm.
The Scottish Parliament website will show the statement in full, while BBC One Scotland and BBC Scotland will also broadcast it.
