TWO more schools in South Ayrshire are dealing with an outbreak of coronavirus bringing the total to seven.

Queen Margaret Academy and Prestwick Academy are both dealing with infections of coronavirus.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran's Test and Protect team are asking those affected to self-isolate for 14 days.

The health board have issued a message of reassurance that they will take every measure to protect pupils and staff.

It marks the end of a week where seven schools all had pupils self-isolating in the South Ayrshire Council area.

A full class at Coylton Primary and Holmston Primary were put into quarantine after confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Ayr, Kyle and Belmont Academies have all been at the centre of a track and trace operation over the last seven days.

Joy Tomlinson, Joint Director of Public Health said:"A small number of individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time."
