A schoolboy was assaulted in the Tesco Metro supermarket in Saltcoats this morning allegedly because he was not wearing a mask.

The 16-year-old was attacked at around 9am in the High Road store, with the scene reportedly unfolding in the bread aisle.

The teen is said to have been assaulted because he was not wearing a face covering.

A 74-year-old man has received a police recorded warning following the incident.

Staff reportedly had to intervene and were left shaken.

A police spokesperson said : "A 74-year-old man received a police recorded warning after a 16-year-old male youth was assaulted in High Road, Saltcoats at around 9am on Wednesday, 28 October, 2020."
