A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault in Prestwick which put a woman in hospital.

A 38-year-old woman was found injured on the Main Street last night at around 9.45pm [Wednesday, October 21].

Paramedics took her to University Hospital Ayr where she is still being treated.

A 62-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and police enquiries are ongoing.

Officers were still at the scene last night while enquiries were concluded, but Ayrshire Police Division assured the public that 'there is no wider threat'.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.45 pm last night, Wednesday, 21 October, 2020, police were called after a 38-year-old woman was found injured in Main Street, Prestwick.

"She was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Ayr where she remains for treatment.

"A 62-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are continuing."
