THE former Hourstons building along with the Arran Mall is set to be purchased by the council this week.
South Ayrshire Council plan to transform the site into a new leisure hub.
Today, the council revealed they are close to securing the buildings.
A spokesperon said: "This is an exciting development, marking an important milestone as we work to transform the site into a fantastic new leisure hub.
"We will now be able to make significant progress towards achieving our ambition to regenerate Ayr High Street.
Councillor Peter Henderson, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: “This is an important step towards repositioning Ayr High Street as a prime cultural, heritage and leisure destination.
“A modern leisure facility will help attract people back into the town centre, support local businesses and ensure South Ayrshire is an even better place to live.”
