Two people have died from coronavirus in NHS Ayrshire and Arran having tested positive.

The tragic deaths occurred within the health board in the seven days to Saturday, October 10.

Across the three council areas there has been a total of 478 positive COVID-19 results in the same period.

On Wednesday, National Records of Scotland will publish the number of deaths related to the virus since September 16.

Below are the statistics for neighbourhoods across Ayrshire.

North Ayrshire

Most of the positive cases of the virus in North Ayrshire were reported in Irvine and Kilwinning.

But there have also been cases in the Three Towns, Beith, Kilbirnie, Largs and West Kilbride. A total of 160 cases were recorded in the week leading up to October 10.

There were at least 32 cases in Kilwinning, where Abbey Primary School will remain closed next week after an outbreak.

Broomlands in Irvine had eight cases and last week contact tracing was carried out at Elderbank Primary School due to positive results.

Last week, six school across North Ayrshire had contact tracing.

The 'Irvine Central' neighbourhood had seven positive cases and contact tracing was carried out for the second time at Woodlands Primary School.

The Castlepark North neighbourhood of Irvine had 12 positive cases.

Joy Tomlinson, Joint Director of Public Health, said: "We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff."

East Ayrshire

The two recent deaths occurred in East Ayrshire where there have been 235 positive tests in seven days up to October 10.

Last month, contact tracing was underway at both Cumnock and Auchinleck Academies.

Drongan had 9 positive coronavirus tests and Doon Valley North reported 8 cases.

There have been a lot of cases in and around Kilmarnock, but New Cumnock, Cumnock, Mauchline and Auchinleck also reported cases.

Stewarton had 11 positive cases.

South Ayrshire

Annbank, Mossblown and Tarbolton had 11 positive cases and Prestwick East had 10 in the week up to October 10.

Ayr North Harbour, Wallacetown, Newton South, Craigie and Dalmilling all had positive cases of COVID-19.

There were 83 positive results in total.

Contact tracing was underway at Asda in Ayr at the weekend after a member of staff tested positive.

Last week, Lynne McNiven, Ayrshire's Director of Public Health, said: “As we are seeing across the country, COVID-19 has not gone away.

"While not yet at the same levels as at the peak of the pandemic, the numbers are on the rise.

"We are seeing small outbreaks across Ayrshire and Arran, which are affecting local businesses and education.

“The information we are getting through the contact tracing exercises being carried out by our local Test and Protect team shows that the virus is being given a chance to spread through households mixing."
