A 23-year-old male has been taken to hospital after crashing into a police car near Prestwick Airport last night, Thursday, October 8, causing the A77 to close.
The driver's injures are described as "non-life threatening".
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We can confirm a road crash occurred on the A77 slightly to the north of the Sandyford Roundabout near Ayr shortly after 7.30pm on Thursday, October 8.
"The incident involved a Vauxhall Corsa and a marked police vehicle which was stationary and displaying blue lights at the time.
"The 23-year-old male driver of the Corsa was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where his injuries are described as non-life threatening. Nobody else was injured.
"The road was closed until shortly before 11.30pm. Enquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing."
