New Cumnock has been shortlisted for a Scottish Regeneration Award for its commitment to helping those most in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The SURF Awards are delivered each year by SURF, a regeneration forum with over 300 cross-sector member organisations across Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Government.

In an unprecedented year, the forum was pleased to announce the 2020 shortlist for its prestigious national awards scheme, which showcases success in responding to regeneration challenges in communities across Scotland.

New Cumnock will go up against Fernbrae Meadows in Rutherglen and Campbeltown Town Centre in Argyll and Bute to be crowned Scotland’s Most Improved Place – the only town in Ayrshire to be shortlisted.

Aileen Campbell, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Local Government, said: “I am delighted that this year’s awards recognise those who have truly gone above and beyond for those most in need. The care and compassion shown by these communities is inspiring and will help us to emerge from the COVID -19 pandemic stronger.”
