STUDENTS who are living in university halls and flats cannot to back to their parents' homes, Scotland's national clinical director has confirmed.

Professor Jason Leitch made the comment after more than 600 students were told to self-isolate after a “significant outbreak” of coronavirus was detected at Glasgow University.

He tweeted: "Was asked last night whether students in halls and flats can go back to parents’ homes. To clarify, they are a separate household. There are exceptions, eg caring responsibilities, but the law is clear: they can’t meet indoors with another household – even mum and dad. Sorry."

Tighter restrictions being reintroduced in Scotland mean households are not allowed to mix within homes.

Leitch says he is “very concerned” about the outbreaks, which are centred on two halls of residence in Glasgow.
