A SMALL number of staff at two South Ayrshire primary schools have tested positive for coronavirus.

Kingcase Primary in Prestwick and Annbank Primary in Mossblown are the two schools where infected staff are now self-isolating.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran are now carrying out a contact tracing operation around the schools after the confirmed cases of COVID-19.

No pupils have had to self-isolate and parents have been made aware by the health boards Test and Protect team.

Lynne McNiven, Director of Public Health said:"NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Health Protection Team is conducting a contact tracing exercise with a small number of staff at two South Ayrshire primary schools, who have had contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

"These individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"Parents of pupils who attend these schools have been advised of the situation and no pupils have been required to self-isolate.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time."
