A 16-year-old boy suffered serious facial injuries during an altercation in Troon involving a number of teenagers.
The youngster was within a group of around 20 youths aged between 14-16 on Troon beach at around 5.45pm on Saturday afternoon [August 15].
An altercation took place and the 16-year-old sustained injuries to his face.
Police and ambulance were called, however the group of youths had left on police arrival.
The injured male was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where he was treated for a facial injury then later released.
Constable Kieran Young at Ayr Police Office is appealing for information.
He said: “Most of the group involved headed off in the direction of the train station immediately after this incident.
"We have been carrying out enquiries to trace those involved and studying CCTV footage to identify the group.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has any information that will assist the investigation into this serious assault to contact Ayr Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 3288 of 15th August."
