A MAN has been jailed for eight months for stealing a laptop and guitar from an Ayr community hub.

A 42-year-old was arrested and the property was recovered from a property at Wilson Street, Ayr.

The man appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday, August 11 and pled guilty before being sentenced.

The items were stolen during a housebreaking at TSUKURE on the town's High Street on Sunday, August 9.

The property belonged to volunteers of the hub which is solely supported through charity funding.

Police have also confirmed they have arrested a man in connection with a spate of housebreakings in Ayr.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection of a second housebreaking at a takeaway shop in Prestwick Road, on August 11.

He is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court tomorrow (Thursday, August 13).

The enquiry has also linked him to two further housebreakings to commercial premises in Prestwick Road, Ayr, earlier this month.

The male has been arrested and will appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on August 13 2020.

Chief Inspector Brian Anderson, Area Commander at South Ayrshire said “Housebreakings are despicable crimes, particularly when a local charity is targeted given the great work they are doing in the local community.

“Local officers were tasked with investigating these incidents and quickly developed lines of enquiry leading to the recovery of most of the property and the arrest of the two males.

“This demonstrates our commitment to dealing swiftly with crimes like this as housebreaking has been identified as a priority by the community.

“I would remind members of the public and business owners to make sure that their properties are secure, particularly huts, garages and storage containers which are often an easy target for criminals. Please ensure these are secured with a proper lock or padlock and that an alarm is used where fitted.”
