A Cumnock-based entrepreneur is set to battle it out with the finest business minds in Scotland and Northern Ireland for the award of Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Jennifer Higgins, founder of the Wee House Company, which operates out of the Caponacre Industrial Estate has been nominated in the category as part of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, due to take place in September.

The 28-year-old businesswoman from Drongan, who is one of four finalists for the award, has been delivering affordable homes in Scotland through her modular housing company.

Jennifer said: “It was lovely to get this good news, particularly in the middle of lockdown.

“I’ve always believed a time of crisis is also a time of opportunity and it was this ethos which led me to start The Wee House Company seven years ago while the UK market was still recovering from the 2008 financial crash.

“Looking forward, I’m really excited about the year ahead as we’re expanding our manufacturing capacity and increasing our workforce. Winning this award in September would be the cherry on the cake!”

Founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Francesca James, said, “Given what we’ve seen over the past few months, the 2020 edition of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards is arguably the most important. Now, more than ever, it’s vital that we celebrate the achievements of the country’s entrepreneurs and their determination in the face of such adversity.

“The Awards have celebrated some outstanding entrepreneurs who have gone on to become household names. Previous winners include the founders of BrewDog, Tangle Teezer, LAD Bible, Clearscore & The Cambridge Satchel Company.”
