A PERSON was rescued by emergency services near Girvan Harbour after there was an immediate danger to their life.
Lifeboat crews raced to scene at near to their base on the south side of the town just after 10.30am.
Several crew members were already out at sea searching for two inflatable boats (rhibs) that were missing overnight.
But their Shannon Class all-weather lifeboat was swiftly turned after they were alerted to a casualty in the water.
When they arrived at the scene the casualty was not in the water as police and Girvan Coastguard Rescue team took care of the person.
A spokesperson for Girvan Lifeboats said: “Girvan lifeboat was redirected from it's search and headed back towards the coast, as there was an immediate danger to life, additional Crew made their way via road to the scene approx 1 mile from the station.
“On arrival the casualty was not in the water and in the hands of our colleagues from Police Scotland with ourselves and Girvan Coastguard Rescue team standing by.
“The lifeboat at this point was retasked to continue with the initial search near Ailsa Craig, with the casualty at Girvan under the care of the police our crew at the second tasking on land stood down and returned to station.”
They added: “The rhibs were located by Coastguard Rescue Teams ashore safe and well at Lady Bay, Loch Ryan.”
