Police are reminding residents to keep their doors and windows locked after two men were reported acting suspicously outside a woman's home in the early hours.

The resident reported a suspected break-in attempt just after 1am this morning [Wednesday] after hearing two males behaving suspiciously outside her home.

Officers responded but were unable to locate the men or establish any criminality after the call out.

Police have since reminded residents to keep their doors and windows locked at night to deter any potential home invaders.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At 1.18am police received reports of males acting suspiciously outside an address on Doura Place, Irvine.

"Police attended and conducted an area search for the males, however this proved to be negative. There were no signs of attempted entry and no crime could be established at this time.

"Police would like to remind residents to keep their doors and windows locked even when they are within."

Anyone with any information on criminality can contact police on 101. In an emergency always dial 999.
