AYR youth footballers have completed their virtual tour of all the English Premier League grounds after ‘running their hearts out’ for a month.

Ayr Boswell 2008s attracted the attention of some of the game’s legends and celebrities in their bid to raise thousands for Ayrshire Cancer Support.

Ayr Advertiser:

They set off on a challenge which would see them cover 1,000 miles at the beginning of May.

By the end of the month, they completed the last leg which would have taken them as far as trekking from Somerset Park to Bournemouth.

All through the run they were cheered on by the likes of former Premier League star Thierry Henry, ex-Rangers ace Graeme Souness, ex-Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and even pop star Rita Ora.

Ayr Advertiser:

Dad of one the players, and proud coach Douglas George has told how the players all set off for one final run starting at 12pm to complete the 7k

stretch.

He told the Advertiser: “It was fantastic. We ran the final distance together even though we were running in isolation at our own different parts of the town.

“The boys have ran their hearts out for the past four weeks, the way they’ve rose to the challenge is something special. All the coaches and parents are so proud of them.”

Ayr Advertiser:

The team have raised over £5,000 for Ayrshire Cancer Support to help the charity during a difficult period.

Douglas added: “We’re looking to continue to help Ayrshire Cancer Support.

Ayr Advertiser:

“Going forward we want to make it out key charity, by having something on our kit and raising funds again.”
