The Ayrshire Women’s Cycle Festival is to go ahead this year despite coronavirus disruption, as organisers announce an online edition for this year’s fest.

The celebration of women’s cycling is due to take place from June 17-19 and will be conducted via live Zoom ‘webinars’ and pre-recorded events.

Speakers will cover various topics to do with cycling, including bikejor (a sport that involves cycling with your dog attached by a lead to the bike), cargo bikes, cycling for workplaces, bike maintenance and more.

A spokesperson for the festival said: “Although we will remain physically distant, this is an exciting opportunity to connect with women all over Ayrshire, Scotland and the world and to offer support, inspiration and guidance from afar.

“We’re very excited about our programme this year with speakers from different parts of the world and different areas of cycling, from bike-packing in Vietnam, to winning workplace cycling awards to cross country cargo bike races.”

The festival has been supporting and inspiring women in Ayrshire to cycle more regardless of their current cycling ability or experience for the past three years.

The fourth edition of the festival was due to run in July 2020, however due to COVID-19, Ayr and Kilmarnock active travel hubs, alongside The Trinity Active Travel Hub in Irvine, who organise the festival, cancelled the face-to-face event.

Those interested in attending the event can find out more on the Facebook event page through Ayr Active Travel Hub.
