Ayrshire's health service has tested 19 more staff members for the coronavirus as the board works to treat and discharge COVID-19 patients.

Since the last update, five more NHS Ayrshire and Arran staff members have tested positive for the virus.

Across the health board, 1,426 tests have been carried out on health workers since in-house lab analysis began and a futher 309 tests have been conducted on the family members or other household contacts of staff.

Between March 22 and May 24, 18 household contacts of Ayrshire healthcare workers tested positive for coronavirus.

Between, March 5 and May 24, 215 inpatients in Ayrshire hospitals who had tested positive for COVID-19 have been discharged.

Dr Crawford McGuffie, NHS Ayrshire and Arran Medical Director, said: "Our proactive policy means we have tested a higher proportion of staff, their household contacts or family members.

"This is so that staff can be excluded from work, or able to safely return to work as soon as possible depending on the result of their test. "
