A driver had a lucky escape after their window was smashed by a thug when they stopped to help a motorcyclist near Tarbolton. 

The incident happened around 5.10pm on Friday, May 22 on the A719 Sandyford to Galston Road, when a motorcyclist signalled for help at a passing black Mercedes car while parked in a lay-by. 

The driver of the car pulled in to assist when a second motorcyclist appeared and smashed the driver’s window in an attempt to steal items from the front passenger side. 

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

Detective Sergeant Craig Semple, of Ayr CID, said: “Thankfully the driver of the vehicle was left uninjured as a result of this incident and managed to drive away safely. 

“We are now looking for the public’s assistance to help trace those involved. 

“If you were travelling on the A719 around this time and noticed anything suspicious, I would ask that you get in contact with police. 

“I would also ask anyone with possible dashcam footage to get in touch with officers."
