A PROJECT to improve movement through Ayr Town Centre is underway and the engineers behind it are seeking your opinion on the plans.

The development proposals are being drawn up by TGP and Civic Engineers on behalf of South Ayrshire Council to investigate ways that the public realm and accessibility in Ayr Town Centre might be improved.

They said: “We are redesigning some areas in Ayr and hope we can get a bit more community engagement, despite COVID-19 lockdown, by asking people to comment on our Commonplace portal.

“We were appointed by South Ayrshire Council to investigate ways that the public realm and accessibility in Ayr Town Centre might be improved, particularly for those choosing to walk or cycle. We are seeking to ensure that moving through the town centre is safe, easy to navigate and pleasant for all.”

Phase one of the project identified the ways in which the area could be improved. Ppublic feedback indicated that the ways to do this are by removing clutter and old street furniture, making streets safer at night, increasing the amount of green space and planting, pavement upgrades, new cycle infrastructure, and improved signage.

Phase two is looking at ways of improving linkages by foot and cycle to North Ayr from the town centre.

Members of the public are being encouraged to leave their comments on the proposals on the interactive map on the website for the project at: https://accessibleayrmap.commonplace.is/comments.

The most recent public event for the proposals was on March 5, but with COVID-19 restrictions likely to remain in place for some time, there will not be another one soon.
