Roads at the Sandgate and New Street Bridge have now reopened as fire crews continue to battle an overnight blaze in the High Street.

Six fire engines were called out just after 2am to the fire, with road closures put in place affecting New Bridge Street, Sandgate and the High Street.

Firefighters remain at the scene, with Police Scotland advising New Bridge Street and Sandgate is now open to pedestrians and traffic.

The High Street remains closed to all vehicles and also closed to pedestrians between Sandgate and Old Bridge Street at Fish Cross.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.15am on Sunday May 17 to reports of a fire within a row of terraced buildings on the High Street in Ayr.

"Operations control mobilised six appliance to the scene where crews remain in attendance to extinguish the fire.

"We are still in attendance there just now but it is just one appliance there."

More as we get it.
