A CAIRN Primary School pupil led the way in an anti-racism campaign back in 2016.

Youngster Mia Roddie won took part in the Show Racism the Red Card National anti-racism competition in 2016.

Mia’s poster had a strong anti-racist theme and she was a winner in the Primary 1 – 2 category.

She got to attend the awards ceremony which was held at Hampden Park, the home of Scottish Football, joined by her class and teachers.

Mia was presented with a signed Ayr United ball by David Tanner from Sky Sports, Alyshia Walker from Glasgow City FC and artist Michelle Cohen.

Almost 1,000 young people across Scotland took part in the 2016 competition with entrants coming from as far as the Isle of Skye and Aberdeen to schools in the central belt.

The competition sends a clear message that young people want Scotland to be a welcoming and multi-cultural society.

The prizegiving is the highlight of the Scottish calendar for the charity, which challenges racism and sectarianism.

Anna Signuel, the Scotland Women’s team coach, Mark Hateley, former Rangers player, and Craig Gordon, from Celtic FC, were also on hand to present the young people with their prizes on the big day.
