A PRESTWICK curry house has donated meals to Berelands Care Home and Biggart Hospital to thank staff for their hard work during the COVID-19 crisis.

Taj Bar & Kitchen located on Prestwick Main Street made the generous donation after a concerned local called the restaurant telling them about the fantastic work being undertaken by staff at Berelands and Biggart.

This month, it was confirmed that 16 residents at Berelands Care Home had sadly passed away after contracting coronavirus.

Taj Bar & Kitchen said: “Today we donated meals to Berelands Care Home and Biggart Hospital to thank them all for the work they are doing so we can all make it through this difficult time.

“We have always held Biggart Hospital and the staff working there close to our hearts.

“Here at Taj Bar & Kitchen, we have had close family members treated at this great hospital so we wanted to thank them for the great work they have been doing, especially during this difficult time.

“We got an emotional call from a concerned citizen who highlighted to us about

the great work the staff at Berelands Care Home are doing.

“We would like to thank her for letting us know, so we could help these heroes.”

Taj also donated 50 meals to Crosshouse and will be donating to Queens Care Home and Ayr Hospital.

Perry Uppal, Taj owner, said: “Our plan is to donate 40-50 meals a week.

“We’ve had such a positive response from our community supporting us during this time so it’s good to put some of that money back into our community.

“We have socially distanced interaction with our customers who come in for collection and the first question they ask is, is everybody okay? How’s the family?

“When those questions are at the forefront of your mind, it shows what the Prestwick community spirit is like.”
