A cyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after coming off a bicycle on a road near Monkton.

The woman fell from her bike on the B739 near the town on Saturday lunchtime at 12.30pm. 

No vehicles were involved in the incident, police confirmed.

A helicopter landed and flew the woman to hospital for treatment as emergency services responded to the incident. 

Police closed the road for about an hour and 45 minutes. 

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police were made aware of an incident where a female cyclist had come off her bicycle on the B739 near Monkton around 12.30pm on Saturday May, 2.

“The woman was airlifted to hospital for treatment to serious injuries. The road was closed until around 2.15pm.”
