JOBS at GE Caledonian at Prestwick are under threat due to the 'global impact' of the coronavirus pandemic to the aviation industry.

The firm have confirmed that a number of employees will be spoken to regarding voluntary redundancies over the coming weeks.

This includes those who are still working at the Prestwick Aerospace site and those who are currently furloughed.

GE Caledonian specialise in the servicing of jet engines and has been in operation since the 1980s. 

It is part of a branch of GE Aviation who are one of the world's leading providers of jet engines, components and integrated systems for commerical and military aircraft. 

A spokesperson for GE Aviation confirmed that jobs at Prestwick were at risk. 

They said: “The global impact of the coronavirus pandemic is being felt across the aviation industry.

“The business is consulting with all employees at the Caledonian site, including those currently furloughed, regarding voluntary severance. The total number of people affected will only be finalised through the consultation process which is currently underway.

 “We appreciate the commitment of all our employees during this difficult time, and we regret having to take this action.

“Throughout this time, we remain focussed on protecting the safety of our employees, continuing to serve our customers, and preserving our capability to respond to the industry recovers.”
