Scotland is in lockdown. Shops are closing and newspaper sales are falling fast. We're not exaggerating when we say that the future of the Ayr Advertiser, and the vital local news service we've provided since 1803, is under threat.

Please consider supporting the Ayr Advertiser in whatever way you can – by paying just 90p for a copy of the paper, when you're shopping for essential supplies for yourself and others, or by subscribing to our e-edition here.

Thanks – and stay safe.

KEY WORKERS on the frontline of coronavirus in towns across South Ayrshire will have access to free parking.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance has implemented a virtual parking permit scheme for key workers (as defined by government) who are based, or work in and around town centres within South Ayrshire.

The move is in line with government advice.

Permits are available at no cost for use in any council car park, or on street designated parking bays.

To apply for a permit, please complete the application form below, and include a covering statement from your line manager or employer in support of the application.

You can find all the details of the application here.
