SOUTH Ayrshire Council have closed beachfront car parks in Ayr, Troon and Prestwick.

The spots used by visitors to enjoy the popular beaches have been temporarily shut, as the coronavirus lockdown continues to take hold.

The council were advised by police, and say they have made the decision to protect the public and their employees from the spread of COVID-19.

The following car parks will be closed as of today:

  • Cromwell Road Car Park, Cromwell Road,
  • Ayr Charlotte Street Car Park, Charlotte Street,
  • Ayr Blackburn Car Park, Seafield Road,
  • Ayr Queens Terrace Car Park, Queens Terrace Lane,
  • Ayr South Beach (North) Car Park, South Beach,
  • Troon South Beach (South) Car Park, South Beach,
  • Troon North Esplanade Car Park, Links Road,
  • Prestwick Grangemuir Road Car Park, Prestwick
