Mauchline Primary pupils’ first week of home-schooling has got off to a flying start with support from head teacher Lorraine Dougan.

She has been posting daily video messages to keep pupils positive, active and engaged, setting head teacher challenges such as making your bed and exercising in the garden.

She hopes the messages give people hope, reassurance and support.

Lorraine said: “During this time of uncertainty with the Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic I wanted to make sure that I was checking in with the families of Mauchline on a daily basis, via a daily video to our Twitter page, so that parents could share it with their children.

“I believe that being connected to each other, using as many online methods is really important. Just to know we are there for each other and that we value the relationships that we have with each other is so important.

“Some of or parents and carers are also key workers, or working from home which means they are unable to spend hours and hours on home learning.

“My message is simple: do what you can, when you can. Play games, do chores, look for day to day learning activities, have fun and look after yourselves.”

Scotland is in lockdown, shops are closing and newspaper sales are falling fast. We’re not exaggerating when we say that the future of the Cumnock Chronicle, and the vital local news service we’ve provided since 1901 is under threat.

Please consider supporting the Cumnock Chronicle  in whatever way you can – by paying just 90p for a copy of the paper, when you’re shopping for essential supplies for yourself and others, or by subscribing to our e-edition here.
