People across the nation lit virtual candles in memory of an Ayrshire soldier.

Using the hashtag 'shine bright Brodie', respects were paid to army medic Brodie Gillon, killed in Iraq three weeks ago.

Members of Brodie's family encouraged people to light a candle, to pay their respects and show their grattidue towards the soldier. 

 Thousands of people took to Twitter and Facebook, using the hashtag #shinebrightbrodie, paying a heartwarming tribute to Brodie.

With the current COVID-19 crisis, Brodie's family were not able to have the funeral she desrved, therefore the tribute was used to honour her instead. 

Chloe Louise Nicola said: "So proud that i knew and got to meet brodie and have a close friendship with her and her family, forever in our hearts brodie #shinebrightbrodie."
