Students on the Construction and Joinery course at Ayrshire College have built a memorial to Emma Faulds, the 39-year-old youth worker who was killed in Monkton on April 28 last year.

The memorial, a bench and planters near Emma’s house in Kilmarnock where she used to walk her dog was suggested by Craig Barrie, a lecturer on the course who has close ties with Margaret Faulds, Emma’s mother.

He said: “Margaret was up at our house and I had suggested that we could do something and it all started from there.

“I asked a group of students if they would like to construct this as part of their project time and you can see the finished result.”

The project was possible with help from builders’ merchant JW Grants who supplied all of the materials free of charge.
