Ayrshire’s only indoor tennis, badminton and fitness club has closed its courts due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Prestwick Tennis and Fitness has made the decision in line with guidance it received from the Scottish Government to reduce social contact.

But they are continuing to offer online fitness classes.

The club had initially hoped to keep the courts open, while cancelling their classes and Easter holiday camps.

But late on Friday, the club announced: “Following the recent announcement by the government we are with a heavy heart having to close the facility as of 8pm tonight.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that this will cause you. We hope that you will understand that our priority is to protect the health and safety of our members and the wider community.

“This includes the various coaches, gym instructors, admin, reception and cleaners whose working lives will be affected. We will continue to monitor the position and will update you when we can.

“Under these current circumstances we will be suspending all membership subscriptions for a period of up to three months.

“Going forward we are continuing to offer the timetabled fitness classes online via our Facebook page. We are also offering home workouts for the foreseeable.

“To access the Mywellness App go to www.mywellness.com/prestwicktennis and log in with an active account or create a new account.

“Stay active and we look forward to seeing you

again.”
