THE latest wave of South Ayrshire beach cleaning dates have been announced.

Friends of Troon Beaches took to social media to reveal the next lot of dates of clean-ups for March.

Alternating weeks between Troon and Barassie beaches, the first event had to be cancelled on Sunday due to another storm

But the sand saints will return to Barassie this week on Sunday, March 8 to continue to work along the shoreline.

The remaining dates in the month will see the group tidy up litter at Troon on Sunday, March 15 and Sunday, March 29, with the second Barassie clean on Sunday, March 22.

A recent spree of horrific weather has had an adverse effect on the beaches with various items of rubbish washed up from the vicious waves caused by Storm Ciara and Dennis.

One member of the group expressed their concerns about the amount of litter, such as plastic bottles, that was left on Barassie shore because of the stormy conditions.

They said: “The state of the beach at Barassie just before the pumping station is terrible. I have not seen this many washed up old cans and bottles brought up by the seaweed for a long time.”
