PEOPLE commuting between Ayrshire and Glasgow have escaped travel chaos this evening.

Scotrail confirmed that engineers were dealing with signalling issues between Troon and Barassie stations at around 3pm.

Network Rail staff arrived on the scene to fix the fault.

The issues caused numerous services between the seaside town and Glasgow to be delayed and cancelled throughout the afternoon.

But now, Scotrail say services are beginning to return to normal and they hope by 4.30pm that disruption will calm down.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to customers who’ve been delayed as a result of a signal fault between Troon and Barassie today.

“Engineers worked as quickly as possible to fix the fault and get services back to normal.

“Anyone delayed by 30 minutes or more is entitled to claim money back through our Delay Repay Guarantee on our website or mobile app.”

It is unclear what caused the fault to occur.
