Plans have been submitted for the building of 36 new homes in Cumnock.

Mast Architects, of Glasgow, have submitted the plans to East Ayrshire Council on behalf of the Cunninghame Housing Association.

The proposed plan would see five post-war apartment blocks at the George McTurk Court pulled down and replaced with a mixture of bungalows and townhouses, all built to Housing for Varying Needs standards.

One of the post-war apartment blocks, which was re-clad recently is set to remain on the site. The other five are due to be demolished this year.

Planners have taken a “pedestrian first approach”, with only one road leading directly to the centre of the development, where much of the proposed site is given over to a “Village Green”.

The site is located between Cairn Road and Glaisnock Road.

The plans state that:

“The layout considered as a whole offers pedestrians and cyclists a variety of routes, all of which will link the development with existing nearby amenities. This aligns with aspirations to create a walkable neighbourhood which promotes active travel and less reliance on vehicular modes to access local services.”

The architects plan to clad the building in materials and colours that are in keeping with local buildings in order to create a local neighbourhood feel. The materials are designed to complement the nearby church and the stonework of the adjacent housing.

The plans will now be assessed before a decision is reached on the suitability of the application. For more information keep tabs on the East Ayrshire Council Planning page or look out for more reports from us.
