GIFTED gymnasts from an Ayr school are celebrating a major clean sweep.

The Heathfield Primary School gymnastics team won every division in the South Ayrshire Championship - the first school to do this. They progress to the Scottish Championships in Perth.

Coach is Jennifer Webster. whop runs early morning and lunchtime clubs. Results were: Pre-level champions; Level 1 Champions; Level 2 Champions and Level 3 Champions. The mini P2/3 team were placed first out of nine teams, the P4/5 level were first out of 24 teams and the P6 level two team finished third out of 15.

The P7 level three team were first out of three and the P6/7 level two team placed first out of 17.

Headteacher Gaynor Hardy said: “We are so proud of all the hard work and effort the teams have put in. As well as her sports clubs Jennifer is fully committed to her Primary Seven pupils, attending four days and three nights at Dolphin House in November.

“She is currently working hard with the other Primary Seven teachers to prepare a spectacular P7 show which will run for three nights in June.”

Jennifer teaches Primary Seven and trains the gymnastics team before school and during lunchtime. Pupils come in for additional training sessions as early as 8am.

Jennifer said: “I was a dancer from age two then did cheerleading at age 10 and figure skating from 15.

“I never actually did gymnastics but all those sports included it.

“I went to Dundonald Gymnastics Club for six Saturdays with my Heathfield gymnasts a few years ago.

“I also did my level 2 cheerleading and tumbling coaching in Glasgow a year and a half ago.”

She was nominated for the South Ayrshire Active School Teacher Award three years in a row and won the title in June 2019.

She also trains the P4-7 dance team, who were awarded third place in the South Ayrshire Dance Competition in November 2019.
