MORE than 50 children from schools all over Ayrshire attended the third curling ‘come and try’ event at Ayr Ice Rink, writes Stewart McConnell.

This gave children with additional support needs the chance to try curling.

The event is always really popular in the calendar of come and try and competitive events.

Volunteers at the event were Ayrshire college students and coaches from the curling club.

It was organised by Ayrshire Sportsability and Scott Andrews, Curling Development Officer for Ayr Ice Rink and a medal winner in the Winter Olympics.

The 2013 World Men’s Curling Championship took place in Victoria, British Columbia and his rink, which also included David Murdoch, claimed the bronze medal after beating Denmark.

Later that year, the team took bronze at the European Championships.

February 2014 saw Andrews make his Team GB Winter Olympic debut at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia alongside David Murdoch, Michael Goodfellow, Tom Brewster and Greg Drummond.

The team went on to win the Silver medal after producing the best performances of their career.
