SQIFF (Scottish Queer International Film Festival) is touring the country and the next stop along the way is Ayr Town Hall.

The film festival is touring as part of LGBT History Month Scotland and will be screening SQIFF Shorts: Out of the Archives! a history of Scottish queer culture in film.

The collection of short films features the premiere of Cruising the Clyde - a documentary about Alan Johnson from Largs, who details his life and search for love as an out and proud gay man from the west coast of Scotland.

The screening will take place this Wednesday, February 19 at 7pm and is put on with the collaboration of community-led cinema group the Ayr Film Society and the Ayrshire LGBTQ Group.

Helen Wright, SQIFF Co-founder and Coordinator says:

“We are really pleased to be taking SQIFF on the road again to tour around different locations in Scotland and give local audiences the chance to watch and engage with queer film. Out of the Archives! is a look back at queer representation in Scotland in the 20th century - the programme will provide provocation

as well as nostalgia. We hope to generate discussion around these older films and archival content that will be relevant and interesting for diverse LGBTQIA+ communities and across different generations.”

The tour has already made stops in Glasgow, and Dundee and following the date at Ayr Town Hall it will be making its way to Galashiels, Inverness, Edinburgh and Oban. All films will be captioned and the screening in Ayr is free to attend.

SQIFF have hosted an annual film festival in Glasgow since 2015 and provide events across the country year-round. Their next annual festival will be in October from the 14-20.
