A PRIMARY school in South Ayrshire has closed due to a major drainage issue. 

Fisherton Primary, has been shut until further notice and children transferred to nearby Maidens Primary to continue lessons. 

The sitatuation is the result of an issue with drainage in the Dunure school's grounds. 

Parents have been advised that transport to Maidens Priamry will be provided from within the village at the normal pick up place for the school bus. 

South Ayrshire Council posted the following statement to notify parents: "Fisherton Primary is closed until further notice. Children will be transported to Maidens Primary to continue their lessons. This situation is the result of a major drainage issue within Fisherton Primary School grounds.

"All children (early years - P7) should be dropped off at the bus stop within Dunure village (normal pick up place for the school bus) at 8.40am. The bus will return to this bus stop at 3:20pm and children should be collected at that point. A member of staff will travel with the children on the bus.

"Should you require to collect your child/children early, you must make your own way to Maidens Primary School.

"Children must be at the bus stop for 8.40am as it will be the responsibility of parents / carers to transport children to Maidens if they are late.

"Parents / carers can contact the school via the normal number (01292) 612049 if required."
