A MUM fears she could end up in a wheelchair as her TVT-O mesh implant has made her life hell.

Evagail Dagleish, who is from Ayr has been bombarded her with chronic pain and infections which forced her to give up her career.

The 58-year-old former NHS worker had the mesh device inserted during a hysterectomy - but she claims the surgery was botched leaving her kidney damaged as a result.

The grandmother was left suffering from urosepsis three times, her kidney has reduced functions, and countless vaginal problems.

At first she thought her kidney problems were the reason ‘her health plummeted’ but now believes it was the mesh all along camouflaging as symptoms from the surgery for years.

She is now desperate to have the device removed but it requires complicated surgery - which has been compared to removing chewing gum from hair.

A surgical mesh is a medical device made from a synthetic material that is used to support weakened tissues.

Evagail had it put in after struggling with urinary incontinence but doesn’t trust the Scottish mesh removal system to help her.

After being traumatised by her hysterectomy gone wrong, Evagail doesn’t want ‘inexperienced NHS surgeons’ in Scotland to do the operation out of fear of becoming a ‘guinea pig’.

Scottish campaigners have spent years highlighting the problems with mesh implants, and the importance of securing a leading US surgeon to carry out removal procedures and train other medics in the process.

Now Evagail feels she needs to go to Bristol and have a private surgery to take the device out once and for all.

The mum is terrified that her health will continue to deteriorate which could leave her in a wheelchair if nothing is done.

She said: “It’s to do with lots of infections so I want it out, I might not be completely back to normal but at least it couldn’t do me anymore harm.

“I have had urosepsis three times and there are only so many times you can have that and come out lucky.

“My health has not been right since I got the mesh implant, my entire life has been affected because of my ill health.

“I spent 28 years looking after people with the NHS but I’ve had to give it all up and that has seriously affected my income.

“One of the mesh removal centres in Glasgow I went to have been telling women they do full removals.

“But people who I know have been told the full things out only to have more complications and find out it wasn’t all out. I need the full thing out in one go.

“With the trauma of my past surgeries I am very wary about getting anymore and I certainly don’t want to be anyone’s guinea pig to train on.

“It’s barbaric how they put it in they have to use big hooks and put it in blind.

“It should never have been out into the human body.”

Now Evagail is saving up for the £11,484 surgery she needs but is struggling since she can’t work anymore.

She is hoping friends, family, and the local community can help her ‘live a normal life again’.

Evagail added:“My husband, who works for the NHS, works all sorts of overtime to try and pay for it.

“I have never asked for anything I have worked since I was 14 and had a career I loved.

“It affects you not just physically but mentally as well, you want to be back the way you were.

“I don’t think that will ever happen but at least if I get it out it can’t do me any harm.

“The entire thing has just been horrible.”

Mesh campaigners have raised the issue with First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon and hope that they can be helped.

The women insist they had been left with “life-changing injuries” as a result of vaginal mesh surgery and wanted for a “range of commitments” from the government.

Evagail needs help to pay for her life changing surgery and is hoping her community will help her out.

She launched a GoFundme page avaliable here and needs donations from others.

The mum hopes she can raise enough cash to get the operation soon.
