YOUNG Children in Ayr will be safer this winter thanks to a kind donation of hi-vis jackets from Specsavers.

The High Street opticians store has provided local nurseries with the bright protective clothing to ensure they are well seen when out in the darker winter nights.

Hundreds of the hi-vis jackets have been donated to Alphabet Nursery and the 17th A&B Ayr Rainbows and Busy Bees Nursery in a bid to increase awareness of safer streets around Ayr.

It comes as Specsavers encourage more drivers to have their eyes checked to ensure they are safe to drive.

Linda Fulton, store director at Specsavers Ayr, said: “With the days getting darker, these vests will help make sure children are visible when they are out on the roads.

“We also want to encourage drivers to ‘Step up for safe streets’ by having regular eye tests to make sure their eyesight is as good as it can be.

“We hope that all of the children find the vests useful when they are out and about, especially in the darker winter months. We also have plenty more of the hi-vis jackets to donate to local groups, so we urge anyone to get in touch and we would be happy to help.”
