POLICE have launched an appeal after a number of people tried to force entry to an Ayr house on Hogmanay.

The disturbance on a property on James Campbell Road took place on Tuesday evening around 7.50pm.

A number of people are said to have fled before police arrived after they had tried to enter the house.

Police are now looking to speak with any witnesses who may have saw or heard anything suspicious at the time.

They have been carrying out local door-to-door enquiries to establish what happened.

Detective Constable Paul McRoberts, of Ayr CID said: "Enquiries are ongoing and we have been conducting door-to-door enquiries in the area.

"We believe a group of people tried to gain access to the property but were unsuccessful. I am appealing to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious and has not yet spoken to police to come forward as soon as possible.

"I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area at the time to look back at their dash-cam footage to check for any suspicious activity involving a group of people."

Anyone with information should contact Ayr CID on 101, quoting reference number 3181 of 31 December 2019.
