A KIND-HEARTED charity helped bring a special Lapland experience for a brave wee girl battling a brain tumour.

The incredible gesture brought a winter wonderland to the home of Aoife Kidd who had dreamed of going to Lapland this Christmas.

The charity Memories are Better Than Dreams launched an appeal to bring a piece of Santa’s homeland to Ayrshire last week.

And with the help of Whiteleys Retreat and a host of local organisations they transformed the family’s driveway into a winter scene in just two days complete with an ice rink for Aoife to skate on and characters Elsa and Olaf from the film Frozen, as well as Santa and his sleigh.

Memories are Better Than Dreams are a charity made up of caring staff from the paediatric ward as Crosshouse Hospital who hope to make memories for the families of children who are terminally ill.

Sarah Coy one of the doctors involved told the Advertiser: “This wee girl wanted to ice skate, they had a family holiday planned, but had to be cancelled because she wasn’t well enough.”

“We just want to help a family make memories.”

“We got in touch with Whiteleys for help to make the Lapland thing happen.”

Aoife Kidd, from Monkton was diagnosed with High Grade Glioma – a rare brain tumour – when she was just 16-months-old.

Since then the brave youngster has undergone brain surgery and years of gruelling chemotherapy to try and shrink and kill the tumour

The stunning festive scene was created thanks to donations from local businesses.

Theatre company Fib provided Elsa and Olaf for the occasion with actresses Emily and Beth wearing the costumes, the base of the ice rink was provided by Daniel Bryson and Digital Kitchens Factory Outlet and other organisations were the Crosshouse Children’s Fund.

Maxine Allan CEO of Whiteleys Retreat was there to take pictures which show Aoife full of smiles as she sits with Santa and skates with her dads help on the ice.

The Alloway-based charity posted on Facebook to tell of their efforts to bring Lapland to Ayrshire.

Maxine said: “On Wednesday, we received a call from our very good friends at Memories are Better than Dreams; A little girl and her family from Ayrshire - who had visited Whiteleys only two weeks ago, weren’t able to make their trip to Lapland due to regressive ill health, therefore the team wanted to bring Lapland to her. Her main wish was to ice skate in the snow.”
