A SMASH hit Prestwick Tennis player is celebrating major success on the national stage.

Dominic Iannotti, who also coaches at Prestwick Tennis and Fitness Centre, recently lined up in the National Learning Disability Tennis Championships and was competing against some of the top talent from across the country. The event was played at Silksworth Tennis and Gym.

After playing some great tennis, he ended up securing the title to cap off what has been a good year, with some of his players also successful. The top player has also helped coach Troon ace Jack Dickson, who won a gold medal in the singles, beating a Brazilian opponent in the final, and bronze in doubles at the Special Olympics Summer Games in Abu Dhabi in March.

A jubilant Dominic said: “To retain my Division One singles title is a great achievement and I can’t be more proud of my players for their efforts throughout the weekend. It was great to catch up with some great pals and to appear on BBC News Look North. Every match I played was tough. It’s been a great year. I played doubles as well.

“But the result wasn’t relevant it was the singles that I really wanted to get.”

There was more success for club colleagues at the event as a haul of two golds medals, three silvers and two bronze.

The winners were: Jack Dickson – silver in division 4 singles, gold in division 3 doubles (yellow ball) Frances Smiley – silver in women’s singles (green ball), 5th place in green ball doubles. Bethany Wilson – Bronze in woman’s singles (green ball), 4th place in green ball doubles. William Smith – silver in men’s singles, bronze in men’s doubles (orange ball) Calum Munro – 5th place in green ball singles, 4th place in green ball doubles Dominic Iannotti – 1st yellow ball singles.
