BOWS have been are rosined, strings are tuned, bells are jingling!

The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra are in the midst of weeks of Flurrying Festive Fiddlin’!

On Sunday, November 17 they had the honour of leading Santa’s Parade in Ayr High Street while another group played at Troon’s Wintertainment in Troon Old Parish Church on the same day.

Then on November 24, they gave a performance at St Nicholas Church Prestwick at the start of Prestwick’s Lighting Up celebrations and then one of the highlights of the social year came on Saturday when they welcomed everyone to their popular Christmas Fayre in Ayr Town Hall.

As always, the venue was transformed into an Aladdin’s Cave with all the colour of craft stalls, tombola, books. CDs and DVDs and much more together with games for the children.

People enjoyed sampling the ever-popular home home baking, refreshments, - and this soup and a rolls were also served.

The Orchestra entertained people with lots of their famous energetic rhythmic fiddling on stage.

Then, on Saturday, December 14, the Christmas Concert will be staged in Ayr Town Hall.

The musical extravaganza feature jigs and reels as well as rousing festive tunes.

It has been an action-packed year for the musical group, who earlier this year staged a sponsored 24-hour play in to boost their funds in Troon Old Parish Church and this attracted good support, with people dropping in and out.

Shifts were staged to allow the players to take turns to entertain the audience.

The AFO are a collection of dedicated young people who come together to keep alive the traditional music of Scotland.
