A SUPPORTIVE daughter wants to help her mum’s brave cancer fight after the devastating disease returned.
Lisa Torbet is cycling 1,053 miles for the Beatson treatment centre in Glasgow as her 60-year-old mum and gran to her two kids battles cervical cancer which has now spread towards her kidneys.
The demanding challenge is estimated to take 10 weeks to complete as Lisa uses an exercise bike in her local gym to clock up the miles with her goal to cycle 106 miles a week.
Lisa originally from Ayr but now stays in Cumnock says she is taking on the challenge for cancer patients, like her mum who are “facing one of the toughest fights they will ever have.”
She told the Advertiser: “My mum had cancer a couple of years ago she was at the Beatson, but it returned and spread, she’s going through treatment just now but I want to do something to support her.
“At the minute she is going through an aggressive chemotherapy programme, it’s one appointment every few weeks and it’s six or eight hours each time, then she will get a scan to see how the treatment is responding.”
Lisa started the challenge at the start of November at the community gym in Netherthird and hopes to finish at the end of January.
She is cycling 1,053 miles as it is the address of the specialist centre on Great Western Road, Glasgow and has set her sights on raising the same amount.
She added: “I thought I wanted to do something for the Beatson as well because they are all so great up there. I have two wee kids I can’t really get out and about the gym was the only place I can get out to.
The staff there are amazing, they are so helpful and amazing. They are sensitive to what everybody is going through. I just want to raise as much money as possible for them.”
