A MAN has been stabbed in the stomach during a brutal assault in Ayr. 

A 39-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was stabbed with an "unknown implement". 

He was rushed to Ayr Hosptial after the attack took place in a common close on Glenmuir Road on Tuesday evening. 

Police are huting a male suspect described as white, with a local accent, wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap. 

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious at the time to come forward. 

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police in Ayr are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in the Whitletts area.

"The incident happened around 7.30pm on Tuesday, November 19 in a common close on Glenmuir Road.

"A 39-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach with an unknown implement, leaving him with serious injuries.

"He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Ayr, where he remains in a stable condition.

"The male suspect is described as white, with a local accent. He was wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.

"Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at the time of the assault.
